If the assignment measures your thinking, submitting a model's essay is not help — it is hiding. Use AI to probe, outline, or explain a stuck step, then close it and write. Your campus honor code already implies this.
Cite the tool like a source
When policy allows assistance, say so: which model, what you asked, what you kept. Invisible help trains you to forget which ideas were yours. Visible help trains judgment.
Hallucinated citations fail twice
A made-up paper is a integrity miss and an academic miss. If RAG or search cannot find the source, refuse. Your name is on the work. The model's confidence will not sit the viva.
Worked example
Two lab reports
A: pastes the chatbot's methods section, including a reagent the lab does not own. B: asks the bot to quiz them on the protocol, then writes from memory and the lab notebook. B can defend every line. A cannot.
